Editioning
A New Screenprint by Joe Magee to celebrate Watershed’s recent achievements and on going developments.
Working with Spike Print Studio, artist Joe Magee has produced a limited edition of 100 screenprints called Scatter, which are available to buy from Watershed’s Box Office on 0117 927 5100 at a special price of £ 200. This commission heralds Watershed’s recent achievements as it grows from strength to strength. Printed by Ed Talbot, the print is almost a metre wide, and can be viewed framed in the cafe/bar at Watershed. For more info see http://www.watershed.co.uk/scatter/
This is an exciting time for Spike Print Studio. Many changes have taken place over the last year, one of which is the launch of an Editioning facility. Our Master Printer is artist Martyn Grimmer, well known in the print world, for his expertise, particularly in polymer photogravure.
Martyn Grimmer has the ability to collaborate with artists in the same spirit as Kenneth Tyler does with artists such as Frank Stella and David Hockney. He has recently worked with artists such as Sonia Boyce, Richard Forster and Sophie Macpherson to produce limited edition prints with them here at the Print Studio. The printer has to be a chameleon, changing his colour to suit the artist and what the artist might need. We are also lucky to have artist Katy Chard as our Apprentice printer, and Katy has worked hard over the last 8 months to complete many of our Editions.
Editioning at Spike Print Studio has its roots within an etching made by James Ireland whilst Artist-in-Residence at Spike Island ArtSpace. Working alongside Martyn, Ireland produced an edition of 100 etchings of a tree.
