Spike Print Editions and Peter Reddick launch

Spike Print Studio is holding the launch of its Editions and a retrospective by renowned engraver Peter Reddick on Friday 7 December from 6pm.
Uffington DownsThe sheer breadth of Peter’s work and the skill and time involved is extraordinary. Being able to host a retrospective of his work here at Spike Print Studio is a privilege and signals a wonderful sychronicity. Peter set up the Print Studio over thirty years ago (Bristol Printmakers Workshop as it was known then) and still sits on the Spike Print Studio Management Committee. At the age of 83 he is still making work and teaching a wood engraving class for us on Tuesdays.

A catalogue of his work will be available, and Peter will be in conversation with Nicolas McDowall from Old Stile Press on Saturday 8 December at 2pm.

If Peter epitomises the history of the Print Studio, then the Spike Print Editions heralds a new way forward. This is the first stage in a long-term process that sees us becoming publishers of high quality and innovative contemporary prints. Six international artists have come together to produce a unique set of limited edition prints using a number of different printing processes. The Project was made possible through a grant from the Arnolfini Collections Trust, initiated by former Arnolfini Director and founder, Jeremy Rees. One of the conditions of the grant is that Bristol Museum and Art Gallery will receive one of the portfolios for its collection.

We are delighted that Annabel Rees will present the prints to the Museum on the 7th December at around 7.30pm.

“This is the start of a new future for the Print Studio. It is impressive that they can manage this new development whilst also remaining committed to their existing and fast growing membership. We are proud not only to support the Studio with the Editions Project but also in its ongoing efforts to bring printmaking excellence to the community in general.”
