A Backward Glance by Peter Reddick
A catalogue of Peter’s work is now available price £5.00 to support this large retrospective which runs until 29 Feb 2008.

Being able to host a retrospective of Peter Reddick’s work here at Spike Print Studio is a privilege and signals a wonderful sychronicity. Peter set up the Print Studio over thirty years ago (Bristol Printmakers Workshop as it was known then) and still sits on the Spike Print Studio Management Committee. At the age of 83 he is still making work and teaching a wood engraving class for us on Tuesdays.
A 32 page catalogue of his work is available, price £5. Please ring 0117 929 0135 to order your copy. It contains texts by Simon Brett and Joe Whitlock-Blundell, and a conversation between Irena Czapska and Peter Reddick. Here is a flavour of that conversation:
PR: Landscape first got me going in drawing and painting. It arose from a kind of spiritual awakening when I was about 14 or 15..
IC: Can you remember where that happened?
PR: Yes, in the countryside in Essex, early mornings, when everything seemed bathed in light. And that has been a continuous love of mine and an aspect fo the world I respond to. It has the problem too that the more literally you do it, the more boring it is when you have done it and somehow there is the need to interpret and change and transform…I love printmaking because it forces you to translate.
If Peter epitomises the history of the Print Studio, then the Spike Print Editions heralds a new way forward. This is the first stage in a long-term process that sees us becoming publishers of high quality and innovative contemporary prints. Six international artists have come together to produce a unique set of limited edition prints using a number of different printing processes. The Project was made possible through a grant from the Arnolfini Collections Trust, initiated by former Arnolfini Director and founder, Jeremy Rees. One of the conditions of the grant is that Bristol Museum and Art Gallery will receive one of the portfolios for its collection.
