My work intends to celebrate the pleasures of paradise as well as highlight its illusion. All my work comes from an interest in the way information is presented, how we perceive it and that we believe to be true. This is reflected in the materials and processes I choose to make my work. I start with digital collages made from found images; these may be transformed into screenprints, lino or monoprints. The intention is to create a print where the origins of the medium are uncertain.
My most recent work is derived from the garish colours and over exposed images of travel photography. Using the pages of holiday brochures, I collage famous landmarks and exotic flora and fauna. These images give unreal expectations of a place and fuel our desire to experience the pleasures of ‘paradise’ and the exotic.
