12:30 – 3:30 pm
This course covers many areas of relief printmaking and is suitable for complete beginners and for those with experience. It is possible to extend the skills of experienced printmakers in using different materials, differentcolour techniques and working on a different scale.
Christine Howes is a practicing artist based in Bristol. She specialises in creating intimate scenes of wildlife in their habitat. Christine uses the patterns in the wood to enhance her prints and to echo the rythmn of life as she sees it.
Her guest tutor for 2 weeks is Nick Hand from the Letterpress Collective http://theletterpresscollective.org
Nick will focus on letterpress and how to compose lead and wood type and how to print with lino or wood engravings. For some it will be a chance to learn hands-on skills and revive the freedom of creativity that many of us leave behind at art college. For others, it’s an opportunity to learn new, versatile skills and make some beautiful printed objects such as posters, folded cards, bookmarks, or recipe cards.
