Mondays 24 September to 3 December 2018
1:30 – 4:30pm
Led by Sarah Barnes and Charlotte Biszeski
An exciting new course exploring the interdisciplinary possibilities of traditional and digital printmaking processes – using the extraordinary Vandercook Press, our 21 Century HeroMachine!
Acquired by Peter Reddick, the Vandercook has been an iconic part of Spike Print Studio from the very beginning and being one of only 11 in the world it is a rare piece of equipment. Vandercooks were traditionally used for making proof prints of books and newspapers so it can produce large-format prints with great accuracy and enormous creative potential.
During these 10 weeks you will have the chance to produce hybrid prints, incorporating contemporary tools with the conventional plate-making process of relief printing.
Guided by Sarah Barnes – specialist in lasercutting and digital print and Charlotte Biszewski – Letterpress and woodcut practitioner, this pioneering workshop will be the first collaboration between the KWMC Factory and Spike Print Studio. Students will have the chance to experiment with developing their own files for Lasercut, using a variety of materials, and printing their work on the historic Vandercook Proofing Press.
