Spike Print Studio is offering a prestigious one-year bursary for a recent graduate working in relief printmaking, running from 20th April 2026 to 19th April 2027.

Deadline for applications: 28th February 2026

Interview day: Thursday 12th March 2026

The Peter Reddick Bursary 2026-27 is offered to a new graduate by Spike Print Studio to support their practice in contemporary relief printing. As an intellectual and practical offer, the award supports the candidate with one year’s studio membership and mentoring.

Emily John, 2024-2025 Awardee, Work In Progress Show

Peter Reddick was one of the leading wood engravers in the UK and co-founder of Spike Print Studio and Spike Island, Bristol. Bringing a contemporary approach to his medium, he was an outstanding engraver and illustrator who, amongst other notable work, made around 500 wood engravings for books published by the Folio Society, including 18 volumes the novels and stories of Thomas Hardy.

Peter founded Spike Print Studio to provide equipment and support for artists who did not have access to print making facilities (particularly recent graduates). The studio keeps this ethos alive, and with generous support from The Lark Trust Quartet Charitable Fund, we offer the bursary recipient the opportunity to use the presses that Peter put in place and worked with.

The grant will allow a year-long, in-depth development opportunity for an emerging or early-career printmaker allowing the recipient to fully immerse themselves in their creative practice, experiment with process, refine technical skills, and push creative boundaries through consistent access, technical and support, and a large creative community. The bursary will fund a mentor to work with the artist over the year, offering guidance, critical feedback, and career advice.

Finally, the programme offers two public exhibitions, both supported by the grant. The first is a ‘work in progress’ exhibition, presented halfway through and coinciding with a wider Spike Island exhibition. The second is a final, end-of-year solo show which will take place as part of the Open Studio's weekend when the whole building is open to the public. These exhibitions give the artist a chance to share their work, widen their audience, engage with the public, and build professional confidence.
