10 week Polymer Photogravure
10 week course with Martyn Grimmer
A comprehensive introduction to polymer photogravure, an acid free technique, which enables artists to achieve an wide range of velvety tones and exquisite detail in a plate.
This method uses steel plates with a light sensitive coating. You will be shown how to make a plate using a positive film, ultraviolet light and water to develop the image. These plates are then printed in the same way as an etching plate through a printing press.
You can transform your drawings and images from your digital camera or phone, or scan into atmospheric prints with lots of fine detail and rich blacks. The course is suitable for both beginners and those in need of a refresher.
Martyn Grimmer is an expert in photopolymer with a wealth of experience in the printmaking world. During this ten-week course he will guide you through image making and platemaking. There will be the chance to add other techniques such as chine colle as well as 2-plate printing. There will be a weekly round up of different aspects relating to this technique, dealing with plate-making, image-making, different inks and mastering wiping techniques, along with the use of different paper types.
Martyn has been using this process for nearly 30 years and you will be benefitting from his expertise. By the end of the course you will be sufficient in most areas relating to photopolymer.
