5 week Photoshop to Screenprint

£ 232

This is a hands-on course focused on preparing digital artwork for successful screen printing.

Led by Lucie Murtagh, our highly skilled and experienced studio technician, the course combines professional insight with practical, studio-based guidance to help you confidently move from Photoshop to ink mixing for screen print.

Each session will have a digital aspect, with part of the session working at your own computer. You will be led through Photoshop techniques to prepare images for screen printing. The second half of the session will be spent ink mixing and balancing ink tones or colours, ready for you to screen print (with the artwork created in the digital part of the course).

We will look at the different approaches that can be taken to separating an image via colour or tone, creating individual layers and converting them to a format ready for screen printing, and outputting these separations as photo positives.

  • Resizing imagery and setting the resolution
  • Cleaning/editing imagery (including the use of colour modes / crop tools /selection tools / contrast and levels)
  • Use of adjustment layers to create artwork that has been created with threshold and posterize, and how to combine these with drawing tools such as dodge/ burn, pencil and selection tools.
  • Use of bitmaps including half tone and stochastic dots
  • Separating an image via four colour process (CMYK, and correct use of half tone size and angle for screen printing these.

This course is perfect for anyone with screen printing experience to expand or refresh their skills in this digital area.

As well as working at SPS, Lucie also runs Hex Prints where she works with artists and galleries to produce limited edition, fine art screenprints.
